FAQ
We collected these FAQ for Die Head Services for you to have a common understanding of what we do and how we do it. However, it must be specified that a situation may vary from die head to die head. Therefore, read these FAQ for Die Head Services carefully. Should you not find an answer to your question, contact FINTER for advice and help!
1. How long does it take to refurbish a die head?
Project duration depends on operations needed to fix your extrusion device. Thus, it is very project specific. Based on the projects we had, it may take from 3 weeks to 12 weeks. Transportation time is not included into project completion. Shortly, a project begins upon arrival of a die head to our premises and ends when it leaves.
2. What does refurbishment project include?
The refurbishment includes, mainly, disassembly, cleaning, inspection, grinding/polishing, re-coating with PVD, assembly and wearables replacement. However, if a die head has any deeper defects, damages or scratches, we will fix it by welding. Additional services depend on the condition of your extrusion device. All additional operations and costs are informed to the customer as they occur. So, the customer has time to approve and make a decision. Such services may have an effect on pricing and project schedule accordingly.
3. Do you accept assembled die heads for service?
Your die head may arrive for our services fully assembled, partially assembled or fully disassembled. Disassembly and assembly services must be agreed upon at the quotation stage. Such services have an effect on pricing and project schedule accordingly. Therefore, we need to know what services your order from us before die head arrival.
4. How much does it cost to refurbish a blown-film die head?
Unquestionably, all our projects are unique. This makes it hardly possible to put one price tag on the die head refurbishment or even cleaning. In fact, pricing depends on the project deadlines, die head condition and size, number of services, etc. Therefore, we provide all our services based on a quotation. Ask for a quotation!
5. Do you clean blown-film die heads?
Yes, we do. As a matter of fact your extrusion devices may come for cleaning only. It may take 1-14 business days depending on the operations needed. Disassembly as well as assembly must be agreed upon at the quotation stage. Such services have an effect on pricing and project schedule accordingly. Ask for a quotation!
6. What die head brands do you maintain?
Your die head brand does not matter. In brief, we have cleaned and refurbished different die heads made by Reifenhauser, Macchi, Ghioldi, Windmöller & Hölscher, Extron, Bandera, Brampton, Alpha Marathon, Dual Spiral Systems, etc.
7. What is PVD coating?
PVD stands for Physical Vapor Deposition. This is a process in which a solid material is vaporised in a vacuum and deposited onto the surface of a die head or any part. Most importantly, it is twice harder than Hard Chromium. The PVD coating provides the treated dies with superior characteristics than any other chemical or electro-chemical treatment, as well as guarantees a greener finish with minimised environmental impact. PVD coating provides a number of benefits to die heads in addition to hardness and adhesion. And here are some of them:
– it improves wear resistance;
– it reduces friction (CoF);
– it saves energy ;
– it extends life of die heads; as well as
– it is a sustainable and safer method to coat extrusion devices, etc.
