Die Head Workshop
Our Die Head Workshop specialises in maintenance and refurbishment of die heads, flat heads, blow molds, crossheads and other extrusion components. Any extrusion die require regular maintenance, cleaning and refurbishment of the flow surfaces. This is essential to ensure high-quality products. With our service we help you to clean, maintain, restore surface coatings, and prolong the service life of your extrusion tools.
Though our specialty and experience remains, mostly, in extrusion and blown-film sector, a number of other industries can benefit from our services and products as well. Extrusion Die Service and Refurbishment
New life for the heart of your extrusion machine
An extrusion die can be refurbished multiple times without jeopardising its performance and quality of the product. Thanks to repair and refurbishment the extrusion die extends its service life. Depending on the condition, different procedures are used to restore the original condition. With our partners we offer our customers products and services from a single source: service, advice, planning, technology and tools.
Disassembly
The extrusion die will be preheated and carefully disassembled. At this stage, every component will be photographed and visually inspected.
Cleaning
The extrusion die will be cleaned from contamination with pyrolysis oven or manually (case specific). We remove the remains of ashes by compressed air.
Inspection
We inspect the die’s condition and flow surfaces. All findings and defects are reported to the customer immediately and in final report incl. photos.
Grinding & Polishing
All critical surfaces will be ground, polished and buffed, if needed, till even and mirror finish. The surface becomes clean and smooth.
New coating
We apply new coating on your die head. We, mainly, apply PVD coating as it is twice harder than Hard Chromium. There are also other alternatives.
Reassembly
Your extrusion die will be reassembled, measured and adjusted according manufacturer’s requirements. You will receive full project report with your die.

Maintenance process
We keep you updated weekly on your Extrusion Die Service progress at our workshop in Akaa. We ensure that you know your tool better with detailed reports on our processes and maintenance procedures.
Disassembly & assembly
Your extrusion die may arrive in one piece or disassembled. In case you need our assistance in disconnecting the die from your line, our team can also do so. These and other operations can be included into the scope of works upon agreement.
Gentle & thorough cleaning
We clean dies manually and with thermal cleaning. We use, mainly, pyrolysis as a cleaning method in our Die Head Workshop. Thermal cleaning removes dirt even in hard-to-reach spots. Depending on the size of the parts and their volume our cleaning process may take 1-3 days. Contact us, if you are not sure what contamination and parts you can clean with our pyrolysis oven.
When a case requires so, die heads can be cleaned manually at our premises or at your production site. We use surface-friendly tools and emulsions. You can also purchase those from us for your own toolbox. Check our section “Tools & Devices“.
Wearables & consumables
We replace the wearables and apply required greases and anti-seize pastes during assembly. You can send us your own bolts together with the die head. Otherwise, we use our own stock for such purposes. Non-standard bolts like superbolts or similar shall be informed and ordered well in advance. The delivery might take up to 3 weeks or even longer for some models. Therefore, this might effect the maintenance schedule. The better we prepare for your die head needs, the faster the process goes.
Flow surface refurbishment with new coating
Old coating wears naturally out. We refurbish die coatings partially or fully depending on the condition of the die. We suggest to apply PVD coating on top of the old hard Chromium or Nickel coatings. This way the original layer will stay intact. PVD coating is twice harder that Hard Chromium. We can apply also apply Hard Chromium on your parts.
Typically, refurbishment project includes cleaning, inspection, polishing, grinding, new coating, weekly progress updates and final report. However, each project comes with own challenges and unique defects like drooling, dents, deep scratches and other damages. Such defects require own solutions and remedies. Depending on the condition of your dies and desired deadlines we plan and tailor services specifically for your case.
We understand the urgency of your maintenance breaks. We can perform partial refurbishment. If the condition of your die head allows us doing so. In this case our focus will be on the most critical parts. However, our recommendation is to have a full makeover at a time to ensure even wear of the die parts.
Reporting and recommendations
You will receive a weekly update on the project progress by email or phone. By the end of the maintenance you will receive a complete report on your die head condition, performed operations and our recommendations.
